For the last few days, Metro Montage has seen a noticeable increase in traffic from readers searching for information about Capital Jazz Fest 2026 and whether the festival has been canceled.

At this time, there has been no official cancellation announcement that we could find from Capital Jazz, Merriweather Post Pavilion, or any official festival channels. However, there has also been very little public activity promoting this year’s event, including no announced lineup, ticket rollout, or updated festival information that would normally accompany one of the DMV’s biggest annual music festivals.

Many festivalgoers online have started questioning whether the event will move forward in 2026.

Based on publicly available information, the uncertainty surrounding Capital Jazz Fest may be connected to recent legal action brought by the State of Maryland against Capital Jazz and the company’s owner.

Maryland Attorney General Files Charges Against Capital Jazz

According to a press release issued by Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown, the Consumer Protection Division has filed a Statement of Charges against Maryland-based Capital Jazz and owner Clifford Hunte.

The State alleges that Capital Jazz canceled a Jazz “SuperCruise” scheduled for March 2026 and failed to issue refunds to customers.

The charges also reference a previous settlement reached in June 2025 involving similar refund issues connected to earlier canceled SuperCruises.

According to the Attorney General’s Office:

  • At least 103 consumers are allegedly owed refunds
  • The refunds total at least $642,240
  • The State believes additional consumers may also be owed money

“Capital Jazz made a commitment to Maryland consumers and broke it, and then they brazenly did it again. My Office intends to use every legal tool available to hold it accountable in its failure to honor its obligations to consumers.”

— Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown

The matter is currently scheduled to be heard before the Maryland Office of Administrative Hearings on July 21, 2026.

Consumers with questions regarding potential refunds were advised to contact 410-528-8662.

What This Means for Capital Jazz Fest 2026

As of now:

  • Capital Jazz Fest 2026 has not officially been canceled
  • No lineup has been announced
  • No clear festival updates have been released publicly
  • Questions continue to grow online among longtime attendees

Metro Montage will continue monitoring the situation and will update this page if an official announcement is made regarding the future of Capital Jazz Fest 2026.

About Capital Jazz Fest

Capital Jazz Fest has long been one of the region’s signature music events, traditionally taking place at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. The festival has historically featured major jazz, R&B, soul, and funk artists and has drawn attendees from across the DMV and beyond.

For many music fans over the years, the festival has become a summer tradition in the region.

This remains a developing story.

ABOUT

Ever since I borrowed a camera from a friend of mine eight years ago, I have loved sharing what I see through the lens of my camera with the world. There is nothing better than making somebody feel like they were right there with you. A brief moment in time, by way of photography, can say so much. I hope that these brief moments in time point people in the direction of someplace, something, or someone that they may not be aware of, and that they are curious enough to go see for themselves.
