The Boxmasters were formed in 2007 by W.R. “Bud” Thornton (Billy Bob Thornton’s musical pseudonym) and J.D. Andrew, who released their first self-titled album in 2008 to critical acclaim. Over their nearly two-decade career, the band has released 15 albums – including their most recent release, “The Love of This Thing,” which debuted in March 2026.
Consisting of W.R. “Bud” Thornton on vocals and drums, J.D. Andrew on guitar, and Teddy Andreadis on keyboards, the band draws heavily from the 60’s British Invasion, Mod scenes, and late 60’s early 70’s rock. Their unique sound blends influences like The Beatles, The Byrds, and The Beach Boys with American rock and roll.
The Boxmasters continue to tour extensively, bringing their diverse musical heritage to fans across the country. Thornton and Andrew have remained the core of the band since its inception, consistently evolving their style while staying true to their roots in rock and roll.
About The Lincoln Theatre
Built in 1922, the Lincoln Theatre was the original center of Washington, D.C.’s “Black Broadway”, predating and influencing Harlem’s renaissance. Washington natives Duke Ellington and Pearl Bailey were joined by nationally acclaimed artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Nat King Cole, Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, and Sarah Vaughn as regular performers at the Lincoln. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt even celebrated his birthday there in 1942 and 1943, partying with stars from Hollywood, Broadway, and beyond like Jimmy Stewart, Gene Kelly, Joe Louis, Rosalind Russell, James Cagney, and more.
I.M.P., the independent concert promotion and production company behind the legendary 9:30 Club, Merriweather Post Pavilion, The Anthem, and The Atlantis, has managed the historic theatre since 2013, revitalizing the venue and reestablishing it as a cornerstone for entertainment throughout the District by welcoming artists from Kendrick Lamar and Janelle Monáe to Brian Wilson and Emmylou Harris, hosting conversations with public figures from Bob Woodward and Margaret Atwood to Ta-Nehisi Coates and Rupi Kaur, taping specials with comedians from Trevor Noah to Demitri Martin, celebrating the holidays with Smokey Robinson, Patti LaBelle, and Gladys Knight in 2017, producing an MSNBC special with President Barack Obama in 2020, and presenting a special screening of School Daze with director Spike Lee in 2026.
