Artist Residency Featuring Purbayan Chatterjee and Mark Lettieri in Washington, DC April 13-15 at MC Live Arts at Montgomery College

April 10, 2026 By Anthony Washington

Purbayan Chatterjee and five-time GRAMMY Award-winning guitarist, composer, and producer Mark Lettieri have also announced an artist residency in Washington, DC taking place April 13-15 hosted at MC Live Arts at Montgomery College (Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus). During this creative development period, the cross-cultural collaboration will refine and expand the work in an immersive rehearsal setting. The residency culminates in a public work-in-progress showing for the student and audience communities of greater Washington DC, where live audiences will experience the evolving performance and participate in an open dialogue about the project’s future vision and continued development.

Purbayan Chatterjee and Mark Lettieri are excited to announce new music this spring, where the duo will channel their masterful musicianship into a bold new sonic territory – forging a dynamic dialogue between progressive Indian classical sitar and electric guitar.

Lettieri says, “I’m incredibly excited to get this album out into the world! It’s a new, inspiring direction for both of us, and this release marks the beginning of something very, very cool.”

Chatterjee says, “This album is of special meaning to me… I wanted to make music which would be globally relatable to people across a few different generations and I’m very thankful that Mark agreed to join me on this journey. I feel that this album is essentially easy and foot tapping listening while being rooted in raga and jazz funk. For the casual listener, it provides great entertainment, while providing food for thought for the intelligent and aware listener.”

ABOUT

Ever since I borrowed a camera from a friend of mine eight years ago, I have loved sharing what I see through the lens of my camera with the world. There is nothing better than making somebody feel like they were right there with you. A brief moment in time, by way of photography, can say so much. I hope that these brief moments in time point people in the direction of someplace, something, or someone that they may not be aware of, and that they are curious enough to go see for themselves.
