Headlined by Erykah Badu and The Roots, Summer Spirit Festival 2018 brought together some legends in hip hop and r&b and some fairly new artist to the stage. This years lineup included, Erykah Badu, Nas, Method Man, Redman, Lion Babe, Rapsody, Bilal, Phony Ppl, & Bryan J on Saturday, August 4, 2018, and The Roots, Daniel Caesar, Kindred and The Family Soul, Backyard Lizzo, Raheem Devaughn, Masego, Ms. Kim & Scooby & DJ Quicksilva on Sunday, August 5, 2018.
One of my favorite highlights of Summer Spirit Festival 2018 was Method Man and Redman showing that they still have one of the best live shows in hip hop. Their energy, their stage presence, and the design and flow of their show is remarkable. The fact that it is just them on stage with no video or gimmicks is amazing. Keep in mind that I am saying this even with the Legendary Roots crew, one of the best bands in the world, performing during the same weekend.
Another one of my favorite highlights of the festival was Daniel Caesar’s performance, if he is coming to your town for a festival or a concert run and get your ticket now. If you love good music, especially R&B, go see him now before the ticket price goes way up. No lip-syncing, he sounds EXACTLY like he does on record. This was the first time I have seen him perform live and I was blown away. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing him in concert again.
