The DC Jazz Festival has a new end of festival destination this year and its The Wharf on DC’s Southwest waterfront. At the Wharf, you will be able to catch headliners Leslie Odom, Jr. as well as the newly formed jazz supergroup R+R=Now (Reflect+Respond=Now) perform at The Anthem. Headlining over at The Kennedy Center will be Chucho Valdés & Gonzalo Rubalcaba.

R+R=Now is made up of pianist and band leader Robert Glasper and multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and Kendrick Lamar producer and rapper Terrace Martin, and is comprised of trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, bassist Derrick Hodge, drummer Justin Tyson and beatboxer Taylor McFerrin.

In addition to these three great acts, 40+ performances will take place all across the city with Events DC presentation of Jazz in the ‘Hoods®. Participating venues include Hamilton Live, City Winery, Blues Alley, CapitalBop D.C., and East River Jazz. Jazz in the ‘Hoods performances will also be held at Twins Jazz, Hartke Theatre, Gallery O/H, National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden, Sixth & I, Ivy City Smokehouse, JoJo’s Restaurant and Bar, Sixth & I, Anacostia Playhouse, Mr. Henry’s, the Embassies of Korea and Spain, UDC/Jazz Alive, Alice’s Jazz and Cultural Society, The Alex Craft Cocktail Cellar & Speakeasy, Kreeger Museum, Franklin Square, THEARC, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution Coulter Performance Plaza, Children’s National Health System, Acadiana, The Phillips Collection, and more.

Ever since I borrowed a camera from a friend of mine eight years ago, I have loved sharing what I see through the lens of my camera with the world. There is nothing better than making somebody feel like they were right there with you. A brief moment in time, by way of photography, can say so much. I hope that these brief moments in time point people in the direction of someplace, something, or someone that they may not be aware of, and that they are curious enough to go see for themselves.
