5 Local Festivals To Fill Your Weekend

Yes, your long labor day weekend is about to end. That does not mean that you can’t start planning for the upcoming weekend.

The first weekend of September is proof that living in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia metro area is the place to be when it comes to festivals. Even with music festival season soon coming to an end, there are plenty of food, neighborhood, wine, crafts and other festivals to come over the next couple of months to keep everyone happy. Here are five local festivals that will keep you entertained, well feed, and busy throughout the upcoming weekend.

47th Annual Maryland Seafood Festival

Featuring: Chef Demonstrations, Crab Picking Contest, Craft Beer & Oyster Tasting, Live Music (including The Kelly Bell Band), the Capital Crab Soup Cook-off, professional pogo stick demonstrations, kids activities (including the Annapolis Crab Derby Race), professional EVP Beach Volleyball Tour competition, Crab Cake Eating Contest, Wine Tasting Row, the Maryland Fishing Challenge Finale, and more.
When: September 6-7, 2014
Where: Sandy Point State Park, Annapolis, MD
Admission: General Admission: $15; Seniors (65 and older) $10; Kids age 12 and under are free; VIP Tickets Available
Parking: On-site and On-line Purchase Only- $12; Anne Arundel Community College- Cost of parking is $5 per car (pay at AACC) with a free shuttle to the festival

39th Annual Ukrainian Festival

Featuring: Ukrainian Beer; Classic Car Show; GardenCapella Persha Kliasa- Ukrainian A Capelle Group; Carpathia Folk Dance Ensemble; Kiev Voilinist- Solomia Gorokhisvk; Promin Cym- Ukrainian Youth Ensemble; Lyman- Ukrainian Dance Ensemble; Pierogi Eating Contest; Craft Vendors; Food Vendors

11th Annual Silver Spring Jazz Festival

24th Annual Rossyln Jazz Festival

37th Takoma Park Folk Festival

Featuring: Inexpensive food options representing several different ethnic cuisines; Seven stages with music and dance from around the world; A juried craft show and sale; Children’s Activities for children of all ages; Community Tables with information about a wide variety of community group in Takoma Park.
