August 6, 2009 By Anthony Washington

A member of a Moroccan dance group encourages the crowd to clap along  during a performance of Ahouach/Hassani: Music of the City of Assa at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, August 6, 2009.

Ahouach is a communal dance specific to the Berber Amazigh population of Morocco. The art form combines dance, poetry and songs unique to each tribe.

Ahouach/Hassani: Music of the City of Assa was part of the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage “Performing Arts for Everyone” initiative which provides a free performance everyday of the year at 6:00 p.m.

ABOUT

Ever since I borrowed a camera from a friend of mine eight years ago, I have loved sharing what I see through the lens of my camera with the world. There is nothing better than making somebody feel like they were right there with you. A brief moment in time, by way of photography, can say so much. I hope that these brief moments in time point people in the direction of someplace, something, or someone that they may not be aware of, and that they are curious enough to go see for themselves.
